The OECD

  • provides a forum in which member countries develop economic and social policies to help members and non-members deal with an increasingly globalised world;
  • produces comparable and harmonised statistics and uses peer review to generate surveys on individual countries' performance in selected policy areas;
  • generates internationally agreed instruments, decisions and recommendations in areas where multilateral agreement is necessary for individual countries to make progress in a globalised economy; and
  • helps the governments of member countries to clarify issues relating to public policy and the impact of those policies on the international community.

Membership

30 member countries and active relationships with over 70 other countries, NGOs, and other members of civil society.

Decision Making Process

According to the OECD website, decision-making power is vested in the OECD Council, in which each country is represented and which takes decisions by consensus.

Why does this organization deal with Net governance?

According to the OECD's website section on Information and Communication Technologies:

"The growth and development of information and communication technologies (ICTs) has led to their wide diffusion and application, thus increasing their economic and social impact.
